As part of a City-wide Clean Community initiative, neighbours and business owners will be joining efforts to tidy up our neighbourhood. The city will be providing garbage bags, gloves and collection afterwards.

We’d love to see each street take ownership of their own clean-up or pick a designated area (i.e. green space, alleyway) that needs some love and attention and then drop-off garbage at the corner of your street and Gerrard.

Business owners along Gerrard will be providing some refreshments and give-aways.

Time: Saturday, April 20, 10 am – 1 pm
Location: Clean-ups can take place wherever needed in the Gerrard St East neighbourhood, focus on problem areas such as laneways, or lend a helping hand to your local shop owner or community group i.e. school, church, etc.

Update: Bags and gloves are available for pick-up at The Swag Sisters Toy Store, 1511 Gerrard St East. Our advertised “window” of cleaning is 10am-1pm and any amount of time commitment you can make is greatly appreciated. Even a small amount of pick-up will make our neighbourhood that much more beautiful.

This email was circulated by Shawn at the Rooster coffeehouse on Broadview today:

Hey Paula and Fletcher group,
Its Shawn from the Rooster. A guy pulled a con on us on Wed night. He knew
the name of our regulars and set us up by calling and pretending he was him.
Then saying he needed us to help him pay a tow truck driver who changed his
flat… He was stuck at work…blabla… Of course we did.

Well when one of the staff came up from downstairs they said the “tow truck”
driver had been in two days before saying he worked at the Don Jail and
wanted my number to talk to me about getting coffee for a party,…

My staff saw him on the Danforth yesterday going in and out of shops and I
ran up to warn the stores he was in… And sadly he had already coned DESSA
leather out of 110.00 with the same story that her neighbor needed her
help…

I don’t know if you have any direct emails or links to the businesses in our
area but I would like to warn them…

He is best described as a short “Gene Simmons”…. Black hair pulled back in
a pony tail, white, late 40′s early 50′s…. He seems to always get a
business card…and he somehow has the names of friends, neighbors or
regulars….

If someone comes in matching that description and asking for money or a
business card…they should Beware and call the police…If they have
cameras I can identify him FOR SURE!!

Any help or advice as to how we can help our community would be greatly
appreciated.. As im sure you know, sometimes that’s all your profit for the
day as a small business owner and it seems like nothing but its substantial.

Talk soon

Shawn Andrews
The Rooster Coffeehouse
